Air India New Baggage Rules.. Reduction in Free Baggage Limit
Tata Group’s Air India has changed its baggage policy. The new rules came into effect from May 2.
New Delhi:
Tata Group’s Air India has changed its baggage policy. The maximum limit on free baggage for domestic flights has been reduced. Baggage has been reduced from 20 kg to 15 kg for low cost ticket travel. This means that those who take comfort and comfort plus fare category tickets in economy will now be allowed a maximum of 15 kg for check-in baggage. These new rules came into effect from May 2.*
Air India allows baggage up to 25 kg. Last year after the Tata Group took over, the limit was reduced to 20 kg. Recently the free baggage limit has been reduced to 15 kg. DGCA orders to allow free baggage upto 15 kg. Almost all airlines are already following this limit. However, while other companies allow only one piece of luggage, Air India allows you to carry any number of bags subject to the weight limit.
Air India introduced different fare classes last year. Along with Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First Class, it has introduced three sub-classes namely Comfort, Comfort Plus and Flex. Among these the benefits are different along with the ticket price. If you choose a ticket in the Economy Flex category, baggage allowance up to 25 kg is allowed. Weight is generally used to save aircraft fuel. Experts say Air India’s new baggage policy will help the company improve its balance sheet.
